![Primary Keyword: subject combinations for BA BSc B.Com Meta Description (143 characters): Confused about subject combinations for BA, BSc & B.Com for CUET 2027? Here's your complete guide to choosing the right subjects for your dream career. Best Subject Combos for BA, BSc & B.Com Students 2027 Picture this — it's a regular afternoon, and a Class 11 student is sitting at a table with five browser tabs open, a notebook half-filled with crossed-out options, and a growing sense of panic. The question staring back at her isn't about an exam or a deadline. It's something much bigger: "Which subjects should I even pick?" If that sounds familiar, you're not alone. Thousands of students across India are right now in the same spot figuring out the right subject combinations for BA, BSc & B.Com before CUET 2027 arrives. And here's the truth nobody tells you early enough: the subjects you choose today don't just decide which entrance test you'll write. They decide which doors open for you and which ones stay shut. What Is CUET 2027 and Why Do Subject Combinations Matter So Much? How CUET Actually Works The Common University Entrance Test, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), is the single gateway to undergraduate admissions in over 240 universities across India including Delhi University, BHU, JNU, and many others. You can verify this and check participating universities on the official CUET portal: cuet.nta.nic.in Unlike traditional board-dependent admissions, CUET focuses on merit and aptitude rather than board exam percentages, which creates a more level playing field for students regardless of their educational board. In the CUET exam, you can select a maximum of 5 subjects across its three sections. The ideal structure most universities expect is: 1 Language paper + 2 or 3 Domain Subject papers + the General Aptitude Test (GAT). Why Your Subject Choice Can Make or Break Your Admission Here's something that trips up even bright, well-prepared students. You may score brilliantly in CUET — but if you haven't selected the right domain subjects mapped to your desired course, your application simply won't be considered. Allocation and admission at universities like Delhi University is based only on the combination of languages, domain-specific subjects, and the GAT in which you have actually appeared — as per program-specific eligibility. So it isn't just what you study. It's what you declare on that CUET form. Subject Combinations for BA Students The Humanities Side of CUET — More Flexible Than You Think BA is often misunderstood as the "safe" or "easy" choice. In reality, it is one of the most career-diverse streams in Indian higher education covering everything from economics and psychology to political science and history. For BA programmes at Delhi University, CUET subjects fall into two main lists. List A covers languages (English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu, Bengali, and others), and List B covers domain-specific Arts subjects — Economics/Business Economics, Geography/Geology, History, Mathematics/Applied Mathematics, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. You choose one language from List A, and then pick your domain subjects from List B based on which BA course you're targeting. Common BA Subject Combinations and What They Lead To BA Course Recommended CUET Domain Subjects Career Paths BA (Hons.) Economics Economics + Mathematics + Political Science Civil Services, Finance, Research BA (Hons.) Psychology Psychology + Sociology + any Language Counselling, HR, Clinical Psychology BA (Hons.) Political Science Political Science + History + Sociology Law, Journalism, UPSC BA (Hons.) History History + Political Science + Geography Research, Teaching, Museums BA (Hons.) Sociology Sociology + Political Science + History Social Work, NGOs, Academia A word of honest advice here — don't pick Psychology simply because it sounds interesting at a coffee table conversation. Ask yourself: do you genuinely enjoy understanding people, behaviours, and mental patterns? Subject selection should be a conversation between your curiosity and your career, not just a reaction to what your friends are picking. Subject Combinations for BSc Students The Science Stream: Precision Is Everything BSc students often feel more "locked in" by their subject choices and in many ways, they are. The science domain in CUET is very precise. A wrong subject declaration can mean being ineligible for a course even if your score is excellent. For BSc programmes at BHU, for instance, BSc (Hons.) Biology Group requires Biology, Chemistry, and Physics as domain subjects. BSc (Hons.) The Mathematics Group follows its own specific combination. You can check the full BSc eligibility criteria and subject mapping for BHU programmes directly at bhu.ac.in Popular BSc Combinations at a Glance BSc Course CUET Domain Subjects Required What It Opens Up BSc (Hons.) Computer Science Mathematics + Physics + Computer Science Software, AI, Cybersecurity What About Emerging Combos in Science? This is where it gets exciting. Many students in 2027 are now looking at interdisciplinary BSc combinations like Psychology with Biology, or Computer Science with Statistics. These are not traditional paths, but universities like JNU and DU are increasingly offering programmes that blend science with social science. JNU's e-Prospectus confirms that admissions to BA, BSc, and Certificate of Proficiency programmes are made through CUET UG, with candidates selected strictly on the basis of their performance in the Computer Based Test and merit-based deprivation points. You can access the full JNU prospectus at jnu.ac.in Subject Combinations for B.Com Students Commerce in CUET: Fewer Subjects, But Higher Stakes B.Com students often assume that subject selection is straightforward — Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, done. And while that is largely true for core B.Com programmes, the nuances matter a great deal when you're aiming for specific universities or specialisations. Banaras Hindu University offers two undergraduate commerce programmes — BCom (Hons.) and BCom (Hons.) in Financial Market Management. Students are required to choose Accountancy/Bookkeeping, Business Studies, and the General Aptitude Test to apply for BHU BCom courses. Check official BHU course requirements at bhu.ac.in B.Com with Maths vs. Without Maths — Does It Really Matter? Yes and more than most students realise. At Delhi University, for any B.Com programme combination where Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Applications is one of the two core disciplines, it is mandatory that the candidate must have studied and passed Mathematics in Class XII. This means if you're aiming for B.Com (Hons.) or a stats-heavy programme, Mathematics as a domain subject isn't optional. It's the difference between being considered and being screened out. What If You're Standing at a Crossroads Right Now? This is perhaps the most important section in this entire blog and it's the one most guides skip. They give you the tables. They give you the codes. But they don't ask you the question that actually matters first. What do you want your life to look like at 28? Not your parent's answer. Not your school topper's answer. Yours. Here are a few honest questions to ask yourself before locking in your CUET 2027 subject combination: Do you enjoy working with numbers, data, and patterns? You likely belong in Mathematics, Physics, or Economics. Do you light up when discussing society, people, or current events? Psychology, Sociology, or Political Science may be your space. Are you drawn to labs, experiments, and the logic of the natural world? Science domain subjects are calling. Do you see yourself running a business or understanding financial systems? Commerce subjects with Economics and Maths will serve you well. Beyond self-reflection, there's a practical side too. Always cross-check three things before finalising: The specific programme's eligibility criteria on the target university's official website. The CUET subject codes on the NTA's official CUET portal: cuet.nta.nic.in Whether your Class 12 subjects align with the domain subjects you plan to select — if a subject studied at Class XII is not listed in CUET UG, the candidate must appear in a closely related domain subject where at least 50% of the syllabus matches. Can I choose subjects from different streams in CUET 2027 — for example, Maths and History together? Yes, technically you can select subjects from different streams in CUET. However, whether that combination makes you eligible for a specific course depends entirely on the university's programme-specific eligibility criteria. Always check the target university's official admission bulletin before finalising. 2. Is the General Aptitude Test (GAT) compulsory for all CUET applicants? Not universally, but most top central universities including Delhi University require the GAT for the majority of their undergraduate programmes. The General Test is not compulsory across all DU courses, but it is required for most UG courses, and it is generally advised to include it in your subject selection. 3. How many subjects can I select in CUET 2027? You can select a maximum of 5 subjects combining all three sections. The minimum requirement is 1 language + 3 domain subjects + GAT, or 1 language + 4 domain subjects. The exact combination depends on your target course and university requirements. 4. Does my Class 12 stream limit what I can apply for in CUET? Your Class 12 subjects do influence which domain subjects you should ideally choose for CUET but they don't always hard-restrict you. Some universities allow cross-stream applications. However, certain programmes have mandatory prerequisites (like Maths for B.Com at DU). Always verify on the respective university's official website. 5. When will CUET 2027 application forms be released? Based on patterns from previous years, CUET application forms are typically released in early 2027. Keep tracking the official NTA website at nta.ac.in for official notifications and dates. Conclusion Your CUET 2027 journey isn't just about cracking an exam — it's about knowing yourself well enough to walk confidently into the right room. The subject combinations you choose for BA, BSc, or B.Com are the first real decision you'll make about your future, and that deserves careful thought, honest reflection, and the right information.
