The College of Horticulture began in 1972 in Thrissur and is a constituent college of the Kerala Agricultural University. This prestigious school is situated in Vellanikkara in the Thrissur district; this facility occupies as extensive area of 518.28 acres. This college provides 36 programmes, within three degrees’ level, for total enrollment of 2938 students. The institute offers special emphasis on agricultural and horticultural sciences and has a faculty of 92 members. Regarding gender distribution the college is fairly balanced with 74% females enrolled for under graduate programmes and 73% females for post graduate programmes. Facilities offered to the students of the college of Horticulture, Thrissur include internet facility, library and information centre, Agricultural production, and marketing etc. There are two campuses of hostels one for boys and the other for girls to ensure students have comfortable accommodation with facilities. Boys Hostel, Pamba Men’s Hostel offers accommodation for the boys and contains spacious rooms, mess halls and recreational amenities, while the girls’ Hostel having two names namely Harsha and Haritha also offers the spacious room, the mess hall, the recreational facilities. College library is considered as knowledge center containing large number of books, journals and other digital media. They provide books lending, instructing on how to locate books and journals, and providing a link to electronic journals. The facility has well equipped computerised modern laboratories for practical classes and research in numerous fields of agriculture.
It provides a large number of programmes for education, which are 1 undergraduate programme, 20 postgraduate programmes, and 15 doctoral programmes. The core programme completed at the undergraduate level is B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons) and for the postgraduate students there are a number of specialisations like Soil Science Agronomy Plant Breeding and Biotechnology etc. The programmes offered for the granting of Ph.D degrees are in fields related to agriculture such as Plant Pathology, Fruit Science and Agricultural Economics. M.Sc courses in various specialisations are also offered at the postgraduate level. Thus, a total student intake of 584 in the college guarantees an individual attention paid to every learner. Concretely, in the academic year 2022, there were number of students total 2, 430 students taking undergraduate programmes; 508 postgraduate students shown institution’s concern to higher education in agriculture.
In undergraduate admissions the students must pass their 10+2 in the science stream to be considered for admission into any of the universities. For postgraduate and doctoral programmes admissions candidates are selected on the basis of their grades in their previously pursued degrees, and examination which are conducted by this university or any other university or any other recognised authority. It awards scholarships to deserving students; 1,048 students were beneficiaries of the scholarship at the undergraduate level, while 61 students at the postgraduate level in the 2022 academic year. - Boys Hostel
The boys are accommodated in the Pamba Men’s Hostel. The hostels have spacious and comfortable rooms with extra guestrooms to accommodate guests. There are clean mess halls in which more than 100 people can dine at a time. Television sets have been provided with cable connections. The hostels enjoy round-the-clock telephone and security facilities also. The other facilities available are - A reading room with books and magazines for various competitive exams, vernacular and national newspapers, and other major periodicals. Round-the-clock working computer club. A well-equipped multi-purpose gym facility at the boys’ hostel. Indoor facilities for table tennis, caroms, chess, badminton, and for other outdoor games like football, volleyball, and basketball. Spacious garage for parking vehicles Facility for earning while learning the scheme.
- Girls Hostel
The undergraduate and postgraduate programs of the College are residential in nature, and hence hostel facility is provided for bonafide students unless they are exempted on the ground that they are residing with their parents or guardians. The hostel Harsha accommodates UG girl students while Haritha accommodates PG girl students. Both are located 200m away from the College. The other facilities available are - A reading room with books and magazines for various competitive exams, vernacular and national newspapers, and other major periodicals. - Library
The Library is housed in an appropriate position in the Main Academic Block of the college, easily accessible from all Teaching Departments, Lecture Halls, and Administrative offices. The Library provides all conventional services such as Book loans; Guidance in Literature Search and Use of Reference Books, Indexes & Abstracts; Book Bank- General; Book Bank -SC/ST. Formal and Informal User Education Programmes are being conducted. Internet and Database services, E-Journal Service, Scanning and Printing Facility, etc. are available with enough UPS backup. Students Book Bank Scheme - Under this scheme, books will be supplied to the students at a subsidized price. A maximum amount of Rs. 500/- per year per student is allowed as a subsidy. Library Hours - The Library is open for 8 hours a day, that is, from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, except on Sundays and public holidays. The circulation desk will function from 9.15 am to 4.40 p.m. Reference and other services can be availed till 4.45 p.m.

- I.T Infrastructure
The center aims to train all the student members computer literate. It also imparts training to students academic and ministerial staff on various aspects of IT-related multimedia programs. This center is a self-supporting center with an admission fee and a monthly membership fee. training students to provide high-speed broadband internet connectivity. It also provides scanning, copying, and printing facilities to the students and academic staff of the College. At present, there are more than 200 members in this computer center. It has a net balance of more than Rs.70, 000 in its credit. Most all the departments are also provided with computer facilities under the ICAR development grant during the X plan.
