Understanding Service Bonds
A service bond is a legal agreement signed at the time of admission to a government medical college. It obligates you to work in government health facilities — typically in rural or underserved areas — for a specified number of years after completing your MBBS and internship. If you choose not to serve, you must pay a penalty set by your state government.
A seat-leaving bond is entirely different. It penalises you for withdrawing from the course before completion. The two create separate financial exposures. This explorer covers only service bonds.
