Career Plan B logo in the top-left corner of a banner titled "CUET 2026 Reporting Time, Dress Code & What to Carry." The graphic features the CUET logo at the center, an identification card icon on the left, a magnifying glass symbol below, and a student figure wearing formal attire with a graduation cap on the right. The design highlights essential exam-day guidelines, including reporting time, approved dress code, required documents, and important items candidates must carry for the CUET 2026 examination.

Introduction

You have studied for months. You have gone through NCERT books, solved past papers, and done everything right. But here is the thing: all of that hard work can go to waste if you are not prepared for the actual exam day. CUET 2026 exam day guidelines are not just formalities. Missing a reporting deadline or carrying a prohibited item can cost you your seat literally. That is something no student should have to face after putting in so much effort.

The CUET 2026 exam is scheduled from 11 May to 31 May 2026, and with over 15.68 lakh candidates registered this year, NTA has issued clear instructions on reporting time, dress code, and permitted items. This blog walks you through everything you need to know — step by step so that on exam day, the only thing on your mind is giving your best.

When Should You Reach the CUET 2026 Exam Centre?

Let’s be honest. Nobody plans to be late. But traffic happens, auto drivers disappear at the wrong time, and sometimes even Google Maps fails you. That is exactly why reaching early is not just good advice — it is necessary.

For Slot 1, the reporting time is 7:00 AM and the gate closes at 8:30 AM. For Slot 2, candidates must report by 1:00 PM, with gates closing at 2:30 PM. Your specific timings will be mentioned on your admit card, so check it carefully before the exam day.

For Personalized Guidance

What Happens If You Are Late?

This is not one of those situations where being “a little late” is okay. The entry gates close exactly 30 minutes before the exam begins, and no candidate is allowed to enter after the gates are shut. There are no exceptions, no second chances, and no re-scheduling. Once those gates close, they close.

NTA recommends reaching the exam centre at least 60 to 120 minutes before the reporting time so that security checks, biometric verification, and seating can be completed without any last-minute rush.

Think of it this way — give yourself a buffer of at least 30 to 40 extra minutes beyond what you think you need. It is far better to sit outside the centre and calm your nerves than to be running in at the last minute. If you are wearing religious attire or woolen, you should arrive even earlier, as frisking for such candidates may take additional time.

CUET 2026 Dress Code — Is There One?

Yes, NTA has issued an official advisory on dress code for CUET 2026, and it is worth reading carefully. NTA has urged candidates to strictly follow the guidelines to ensure smooth entry into examination centres and avoid unnecessary delays.

What to Wear (and What to Avoid)

There is no strict uniform, but there are clear dos and don’ts.

Candidates should wear simple and comfortable clothing. We recommend light clothes with short sleeves for convenience during security checks. Avoid outfits with large buttons or oversized pockets. Choose sandals or slippers as footwear, since officials do not permit shoes with thick soles inside the exam hall. Additionally, leave jewellery such as rings, earrings, necklaces, and bangles at home.

For female candidates, short-sleeved tops or a kurti without any heavy embellishments are appropriate. Low-heeled sandals or slippers are allowed.

Candidates can wear religious clothing and articles of faith during the examination. However, NTA requires them to report to the exam centre well in advance for additional frisking and security checks. For example, candidates may wear religious threads such as kalava, which NTA specifically permits.

Similarly, candidates can wear woollen clothing when weather conditions require it. In such cases, they should inform officials in advance so security staff can complete the necessary frisking procedures without delays.

The simple rule here is: wear what is comfortable, keep it minimal, and avoid anything metallic or bulky that could slow down the security check.

What to Carry to the CUET 2026 Exam — The Complete Checklist

This is the section you might want to screenshot and save. Forgetting even one document can be the difference between writing the exam and standing outside the gate.

Documents You Must Not Forget

On the day of the CUET UG 2026 exam, candidates must carry a printed copy of the CUET UG 2026 admit card (clear, preferably in colour or good-quality black and white), and a valid government-issued photo ID such as an Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport, voter ID, driving licence, or school/college ID.

Beyond these, here is what the checklist looks like:

  • Printed CUET 2026 admit card (A4 size, with filled-in details, photo pasted, and left-hand thumbprint affixed)
  • Original government photo ID (Aadhaar, PAN, Passport, Voter ID, or school ID)
  • One passport-sized photograph
  • Self-declaration undertaking (available for download along with the admit card)
  • Transparent ballpoint pen (body must be transparent, with no labels or markings)
  • Transparent water bottle (no labels or markings on it)
  • PwD/PwBD certificate, if applicable

One important note: only a printed hard copy of the admit card is accepted for entry. A digital copy on your phone will not be accepted. So please do not rely on a screenshot. Also, if you did not use Aadhaar during registration, you are required to bring the CUET 2026 Declaration Form along with the admit card.

Items That Are Strictly Not Allowed

Candidates must not carry mobile phones, smart watches, calculators (unless specifically allowed for a particular paper), Bluetooth devices, earphones, notes, books, wallets, or any electronic gadgets or study material inside the exam hall, as these are strictly prohibited by NTA.

Here is a quick reference table:

Allowed Inside Not Allowed Inside
Printed Admit Card Mobile Phones
Original Photo ID Smart Watches / Digital Watches
Transparent Water Bottle Earphones / Bluetooth Devices
Transparent Ballpoint Pen Calculators (unless specifically permitted)
Passport-Size Photograph Books or Notes
Woollens (with early reporting) Wallets / Purses
Articles of Faith (with early reporting) Metallic Jewellery
PwD Certificate (if applicable) Food Items

On Exam Day — What to Expect Inside the Centre

Here is what typically happens:

Step 1 — Entry and frisking. You will be checked at the gate. This is where your dress and items will be verified. Candidates with religious or woollen attire should have completed this step before the gate closes, so again — arrive early.

Step 2 — Biometric verification. Security checks and biometric verification are expected to take additional time due to the large number of candidates appearing for the exam. Keep calm, follow the queue, and do not be in a rush.

Step 3 — Seat allotment. You will be guided to your allotted seat. Do not sit anywhere else. If the subject on your computer screen does not match what is on your admit card, inform the invigilator immediately.

Step 4 — Read the instructions. Before the exam begins, a few minutes are usually given to go through on-screen instructions. Use this time wisely.

Step 5 — Surrender your admit card. Before leaving the room, you must hand over your filled-in admit card to the invigilator. Do not forget to do this.

A few quick reminders for inside the hall: use only the rough sheets provided at the centre, do not communicate with other candidates, and always listen to the invigilators. Any act of unfair means can lead to immediate disqualification.
