NBE releases the official 2026 cutoff only after the result, so no verified 2026 MD Anaesthesiology cutoff exists yet. The figures below are compiled 2025 Round 1 data and should not be read as NBEMS/MCC-published branch cutoffs.

During 2024, it initially fell to the 15th percentile for General/EWS and 10th for reserved categories, before dropping further to the 5th percentile for all categories by the stray vacancy round. For 2025, the qualifying percentile dropped to 7th for General/EWS, 5th for General-PwBD, and 0th (negative marks permitted) for SC/ST/OBC. These are qualifying thresholds for counselling eligibility, not branch-specific admission cutoffs.

AIQ vs State Quota: How Do They Differ?

MCC handles the applicable AIQ seats. 

State counselling authorities handle their respective state-quota seats under their own published eligibility and reservation rules. 

The Supreme Court ruled in January 2025, in Dr. Tanvi Behl v. Shrey Goel, that residence- or domicile-based reservation in postgraduate medical courses is constitutionally impermissible. The Court did recognize that a reasonable amount of institution-based preference can still stand. So state-quota eligibility rules haven’t uniformly disappeared — candidates should check the current rules published by their state counselling authority rather than assume a domicile-based reservation still applies, or that it’s gone everywhere. Compare college-, category- and quota-specific historical closing ranks rather than assuming one route guarantees an easier cutoff.

Round-Wise Cutoff Movement

MD Anaesthesiology closing ranks shift between Round 1, later rounds, and stray-vacancy stages. The direction and size of that movement depends on seat vacancies, candidate upgrades, withdrawals, newly added seats, and the specific counselling authority’s rules.
